This is somewhat more technical than my usual writing, but I recentrly did an interview with Dr. Scott Aaronson, a UT professor and leading world expert in quantum computing. It is somewhat longer than a lot of my usual work, but very much worth it. I would especially recomend the latter part of the interview, where I start asking about Artifical Intelligence, and where he sets forth a good summary of the risks, both mundane and existential, from AI. I personally disagree with his estimation of the latter risks, but will discuss that more in a forthcoming article.
Hopefully, I will be able to do more of these types of interviews this spring— UT has many amazing academics with interesting and important research who are happy to be interviewed by student jourmalists, if only someone will reach out, but we will see to what extent this materializes. Anyone who knows of someone I should interview is encouraged to reach out point me in their direction.
